Yassir Rais Creations is known for making provocative and thoughtful custom sneakers like the What’s Vintage? Nike Dunks. The designer posted these interesting sneakers at his Customsnkr.com blog linked here. The What’s Vintage? Nike Dunks were designed to challenge the established ideas of what makes a shoe vintage.

Instead of relying on a classic image, logo or color scheme, Yassir Rais used outside elements to make these sneakers look well-worn. The stitched material on the toe box may look like an old door mat but the pattern makes fun of the idea that shoes and clothing can hit shelves with manufactured wear and tear. The spotted laces contribute to the found-art concept of these custom Dunks, looking like a contribution from the family junk drawer that fits the theme in some perverse way.

Yassir Rais finished off the What’s Vintage? Nike Dunks with some fantastic fading from white to black at the middle panels. The designer wrote “What’s Vintage?” in black lettering along the heel to drive his point home. The What’s Vintage? Nike Dunks show what a bunch of disparate design elements can become in the hands of an excellent sneaker artist.
Emmanuelabor has used the California state flag as inspiration for multiple custom sneakers. The designer showed why sneaker fans love his shoes with the latest version of the Cali Nike Dunks. These sneakers were found at Emmanuelabor’s Nike Talk post linked here.

The tongue features a replica of the California flag complete with bear and the words “California Republic.” Emmanuelabor recreated the California bear on the outsides of both shoes, showing a skilled hand and a good eye. The Nike symbol on the heel tag is colored red and green to honor the colors of the flag.

I have mixed feelings about the brown fake fur used on the toe box, tongue and middle panel. Emmanuelabor wanted to add texture to the Cali Nike Dunks and the California bear seemed like a natural muse. While I love the look of the fake fur, I have a feeling that the Cali Nike Dunks would be ruined immediately after taking the first step outside. Even with this reservation, I think the Cali Nike Dunks are some of Emmanuelabor’s finest work.
