Every shoe company seems to have Olympic fever this winter. Nike has been active in putting out dozens of shoes modeled after the Olympic medals, historic Olympic Games and specific events. The Nike Trainer Dunk Lows shown above are designed for swimming enthusiasts.

A close examination of the photo above will help you see why these shoes are distinctive. The gold accents and bright-white paint may obscure the fact that there are clear panels behind the swooshes and along the toe boxes. This Trainer Dunk Low is a glorified sandal passing as a pair of cross trainers.
I may not appreciate the clear paneling but there is another distinctive touch that Nike added that is great. Pull out the insoles of the Olympic Gold Trainer and you will see rows of lane markers. The insoles cannot be seen by anyone but the wearer, however, so I give these Trainers a low mark in terms of design.
If you like simplicity and style, you won’t be disappointed with these Nike Air Force Ones that dropped at House of Hoops in Harlem last week. These simple black colorways feature premium leather and colored midsoles and heel tabs.

My favorite of the group is the Chutney (mustard yellow) because it provides the most contrast. However, any of these shoes would be a nice choice if you love versatile black kicks.
Nike has a new 10AC spring 2008 collection. It is a collaboration with Uno Coal From Japan. This collection has clothing and footwear. It uses its basic colors of black and white. The previous season colors were also black and white. This collection has a black Nike Talache Low and a white Talache mid. The clothing includes T-shirts and windbreakers. The accessories include beanies and a tote bag.

The Talache Low is simple in design but a classic. It has a white mid-sole and a thin black outsole. There is a tag attached to the last shoe lace hole. There is a special panel at the heel that is light black color with darker, black spots. Special attention is also paid to the heel where a different colored grey tab is attached.

The 10AC beanies are simple and clean classics. They are valuable for accessorizing any outfit. I would like to use the white one for dark colored outfits and vice versa for the black beanie.

The tote bag looks nice. It is large enough to carry essentials, while small enough to be used as a handbag too. The straps create the design by being a long follow through, being stitched right down to the bottom of the bag.

The glossy windbreakers are sleek and nice. The last item is the T shirt with a contrasting color of bands at the sleeves.

Twitch came out with some Nike SB customs recently in honor of Kanye West. The inspiration was the cover art for West’s “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” single which features some cartoon images similar to artwork used on other West singles. I think Twitch did a fine job with these shoes especially in portraying a popular rapper like Kanye West.

It is tough to make a realistic portrait with paint on the side of a shoe. You can compound that problem with the popularity of the subject and add some serious pressure on the artist. The picture above shows Twitch’s outstanding work in creating a clear and unmistakable picture of Kanye on the left shoe. The black background with small white spots is perfect considering the bright yellow/green used on the rest of the shoe.

The picture below shows the artwork on the right shoe including a clever use of the Nike swoosh to form the smile of a cartoon character. I think there are brighter and more fanciful shoes celebrating West’s artistic side but Twitch captures something deeper in these shoes. I would be reluctant to wear these shoes lest I wear out West’s portrait by walking through puddles and rain.
If you are music fan, you may love the new pack of shoes being released by Nike this fall. These shoes honor heavy metal and punk rock in a pack dubbed the Nike Hard N Heavy Attitude Pack.

These interesting shoes, which are a Nike Terminator and a Vandal so far, feature metal studs and a strap resembling a belt. The shoes come in black and gold colorways and each will be released with a gold guitar pick.

Studs are being used quite a bit in women’s shoes, belts and handbags this year. So it’s not surprising that Nike chose to use them in this pack. We’ll let you know more details on pricing and other shoes in the pack as soon as info is released.
The Nike Air Zoom Talache Low has been released in Japan. This new colorway is available at Mita Sneakers. It costs 11, 340 Yen.

The beige is kind of like grey in color. The toe box is framed by an earthy tone of brown-beige. This suede paneling ends with a pointed tip and another panel continues right up to the heel of the shoe. The entire shoe is in suede, save for a panel of smooth, red-brown leather at the heel.

The mid-sole has 3 lines of machine stitches in matching beige thread. The Nike brand is almost invisible, except for a small branding on the tongue and at the heel of the mid-sole. This is definitely a nice dress shoe to wear on casual occasions. I like the mild colors as they would complement many colors in my wardrobe.

Nike has maintained its high profile by sponsoring events, clubs and athletes. Some of its celebrity athletes are Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldo, Robinho, Ronaldinho and etc.

Wayne Rooney will be getting hitched this summer to his long time girlfriend, Coleen McLoughlin. Coleen has disallowed Wayne's big extended family to attend their wedding because of an earlier skirmish with some of them. It is unknown if any of Wayne's soccer team mates would be invited. The couple has sold the photography rights for their wedding for a record breaking £2.5 million.

The new Nike Dunk Hi Premium is a fresh White/ Pine Green-Varsity Maize Colorway. It has a classic shape and is made out of white/ pine green smooth leather. It has a white/ green sole. The innersole is actually a thin layer that hides the Zoom Air unit under it. This gives the shoe extra comfort. This is the extra insulated inner that provides more warmth during winter. I wish they had released this shoe before winter. Now, if I buy this, I would keep it for my winter of 2008. This shoe has an extra pair of green laces. The different laces will give the shoe a slightly new look. The Nike Swoosh is made of premium ostrich leather. That is really exotic.

The features for the green/white colorway apply equally for the red/white colorway too. The photo shows the red shoe lace instead of the white shoe lace on the shoe. This shows the effect of the red lace as an accent on the shoe. I like the idea of having a red heel. I prefer this to the other pair with the green heel. I think having a colored shoe lace would make the shoe look more attractive than a white lace.

The left pair features additional light gray paint behind a darker gray Nike swoosh. The designer didn’t go overboard with this pair, opting for subtle shifts that Nike should have thought about in the first place.

The right pair in the photo above act as a colorful counterpoint to the left pair. Neon green laces drew my eyes the first time I glanced at the photo. I think that the designer’s sparing use of red paint around the Air cushion and collar makes the garish laces acceptable.

It can be difficult to customize these shoes because a few missteps can lead to an ugly pair of Nikes. I like what I see out of “daaznfella” though I hope he steps out a little bit more in future endeavors.

The theme of the shoe seems to be a mix of an Oriental and a military look. The use of camouflage is extremely nice, especially with the dark green Nike swoosh over the top of it. The Oriental patterns over parts of the shoe give these customs a unique look and feel.
This Tre A.D. uses the Nike Free technology. It has large flex grooves in the right places. The toe box is wrapped in an entire rubber toe cap. The Zoom air bag is inside the shoe.

The white colorway is a great looking shoe. The black and red colored accents complement the shoe. It has a combination of different textures. The tongue is mesh. The mid-section is leather with bullet holes. The heel panels are leather with corrugated texture. It has a red outsole.

The black colorway is identical to the white colorway, except that the color combination is different. The accents are light blue and coordinate with the rest of the black shoe well. Due to the dark color, the rubber toe cap looks outstanding. Its outsole is blue in color. I would suggest the black colorway for a more striking effect than the white colorway.

RastaCat at Baysicc Designs has turned a pair of Nike Air Force Ones into a mural about life in New York City. The exposed sides of both shoes feature water color murals of the Big Apple skyline. The right shoe shows the bright lights and skyscrapers that people associate with New York City while the left show focuses on structures on a single street.

Baysicc’s homage to New York City features small touches on the toe boxes and heels. The toe boxes continue the water-color effect with depictions of the Statue of Liberty’s face. The heels are given the look of a subway stop with train markers and the words “Times Square” standing out against the black paint. This pair of Air Force Ones is New York from toe to heel.

Check out other offerings by Baysicc Designs here to see if the rest of their projects match up with the NYC Air Force Ones. The time and care put into these one-off shoes should appeal to sneaker fans who are tired of mainstream shoes and sloppy amateur jobs.
A few months back, we told you about a few colorways of the Nike Vintage Terminator that would be coming out this year.
Well the red version is now available. The latest in the Vintage collection, red and white St. John’s University Terminator High is now available at Atmos.
The Georgetown model was already released and now it’s St. John’s turn. These shoes show the vintage signs of aging like creasing, scuffing and yellowing.
Cop both the Georgetown and the St. John’s version at Atmos right for 16,800 yen (about $165 USD) a pair.
The sequence of Nike Denim Dunks shown above shows the end result of a customizer’s afternoon of boredom. The selective use of bleach on these Dunks created large splotches of white set against blue denim. There were already bleach marks on these shoes that created a multi-toned effect after everything was washed and dried.

I think that these custom Dunks are interesting though difficult to imagine wearing around town. The disjointed shapes created by bleach against denim are intriguing but unattractive visually. I am not a huge fan of denim shoes in the first place but denim with different bleach stains just doesn’t work. Boredom can create interesting things but it takes commitment and time on the part of the designer to turn something like bleach into a tool for artistic expression. This designer could make some great stuff in the future if he showed some discipline with bleach, paint and other implements.
These custom Nike SBs were created by an amateur designer whose friend was not keen on the yellow fade underneath the swoosh. You can check out the original shoes after this post for comparison’s sake. I think that the switch from yellow to purple underneath the swoosh alters the appearance of the shoe in a negative way.

I understand that bright yellow is not the favorite color for many sneaker fans. The problem with changing from a contrasting color to a matching color under the swoosh is that the shoe’s signature mark is lost. Another layer of purple paint will turn the back half of these shoes into a big mess.

The designer wanted to model these shoes after the Jordan VII Raptors but I think he missed the mark. There is something to be said for keeping a shoe with garish colors intact if the alternative is creating a mess. I hope that the designer who posted this on Nike Talk improves on his work in the future by thinking about the reasoning behind the manufacturer’s colorways and designs.

Bayiscc Designs is back again with a pair of glittering Nike Air Force Ones. The design is a simple gold/black colorway split down the middle with alternating swoosh colors. The most noticeable aspect of these custom Air Force Ones is the glitter applied from heel to toe.

I have mixed feelings about these customs from Baysicc Designs. I loved the Baysicc’s custom AF1s with a Big Apple theme that I posted on earlier this month and I think the designer did a great job of keeping a clean demarcation between black and gold. I have a personal problem with the glitter that may not be shared by other sneaker fans. I think that the black/gold customs would have succeeded without the glitter as a simple two-color take on the Nike Air Force One.

I think that Baysicc Designs has done better work than these black/gold offerings in the past. These shoes could have stood on their own but I know plenty of other sneaker fans disagree with my assessment. The Nike Air Stab has just been released in a Glacier colorway for women which is very appealing. This shoe features grey and purple accents to the main silverish Glacier color. Ice blue is also used on the Swoosh and sole, while touches of light green are present in this shoe as well.

These shoes are available on ebay right now with a starting bid of $80 and they’ll be on shelves in stores soon.

The colors and textures blend well in this shoe. It’s subtle coloring is very good looking, particularly compared to some of the more loud colorways that are on the market right now. This is a great shoe for the ladies for spring. Get it on ebay now or look for it at a retailer near you soon.
The SBTG/Phu! feud continues today with my look at the Phantom Mirage Air Max 90s. Phu! created eight custom sneakers that will be pitted against SBTG’s Air Force Ones on March 30 in New York City. I covered SBTG’s customs in yesterday’s post but Phu! has won the Death from Above battle in my mind.

Both designers used World War II fighters as their motivation. SBTG’s Air Force Ones are left in the dust by the modern interpretation taken by Phu!. The Phantom Mirage has a snarling white mouth with green acid oozing outward from the toe box. The P77 stamp applied to SBTG’s customs is enhanced by Phu! who encases the stamp in green bombs.

Phu! has priced his eight Phantom Mirages at $550 USD to make the battle in NYC a fair fight on March 30. I think that Phu! will sell out more quickly than SBTG. The only thing I know is that I am jealous of the people who will get a pair of great customs despite the designer.
At Champs and other Nike retailers, you can find this new color scheme for the Nike Air Classic BW. It isn’t vastly different than other Nike Air Classic BWs, but it’s unique enough to be a noteworthy release. At around $90, this shoe is a good buy.

Black and white is used exclusively in this shoe. With a lot of mixing and matching of the colors, these kicks have somewhat of a zebra feel. The patent leather on the front portion of the shoes looks nice, as does the Nike Air logo on the tongue. If you want to add some color, switch out the white laces for some colored laces.
The premiere of the Death Seeker Air Force Ones from SBTG on March 30, 2008 has been billed as the next big thing in the custom sneaker world. This proclamation may come from SBTG via Nike Talk but the Death Seekers posted above and below look like they live up to the hype. SBTG has created eight pairs of the Death Seekers to be pitted against Phu! and their Phantom Mirage Air Max 90s (featured tomorrow).

SBTG used a World War II-era fighter as inspiration for its limited run of Death Seekers. You can see the fearsome shark’s teeth running the full width of each toe box in the picture below. The P77 logo shown on the heel is reminiscent of the call letters used on older fighters. The bullet silver paint used to bring these Air Force Ones back to the future is an awesome touch.

I love the camo print used on the Nike swoosh as well as the dog tags added to the shoe strings. SBTG is not giving away the Death Seekers at $500 USD but sneaker fans who have socked away some money should consider these shoes a worthwhile and once in a lifetime investment.

Now is Adidas being too much? We’ve been speaking about some footwear being similar to jewelry and passing as items of luxury before. Adidas seems to have taken this concept seriously, and these shoes do sport six small diamonds between the signature three stripes, with Swarovsky crystal studded laces. Gem-shoes? Wow!

But if any of you will criticize this as a kind of misplaced extravagance, let’s remember the 60 years of excellence during which this German brand has been creating beautiful items of footwear for their followers. And the classical design of this sample doesn’t disappoint, the colorways, the stripes, the diamonds, all combine to create quite a masterpiece.

This pair is very limited in number, and we’re told that they are available at Xcitizm at the moment.
Hziii Customizations used the mixture of ink colors as inspiration when creating the Poison Adidas Stan Smith 2. The Poison Adidas Stan Smith 2 can also be seen from a darker perspective with the black ink slowly but surely killing or “poisoning” the mint ink. The exterior side of both shoes shows the mint color cutting across the black expanse in a thin line. If you imagine dropping some light ink into a dark fluid, you can see what a great job Hziii did with this design. The brush strokes that cut across the black paint may look haphazard but the image moves smoothly as the eye drifts to the toe.

Hziii used a more elaborate design on the interior side of the Poison Adidas Stan Smith 2. We see a broader band of mint green just behind the middle panel, surrounded on both sides by black paint. Hypethetic was asked by Adidas to customize a pair of its shoes for an event called “Adidas 60 Years of Stars and Stripes.” The designer used a pair of white/green Adidas Pro Models to get the job done. By looking at the photos below and at Hypethetic’s Customsnkr.com blog linked here, you would never know that this great design came from such humble beginnings.

These Pro Models were converted into a celebration of Adidas advertisements throughout the years. Hypethetic integrated the images of Adidas models and fans into the shoe including a remarkable melding of the blue tri-stripes with ad images. Since Adidas has spent 60 years building its image, it is appropriate that Hypethetic focused on advertising in celebrating the company’s achievements.

My favorite part of the Stars and Stripes Pro Models is the stitched “60 Years” featured on the tongue. Hypethetic stitched “60 Years” but let the blue background step forward in the shape of the Adidas logo inside of the zero. I am sure that these customs were a hit considering Hypethetic’s design skills as well as the shoe’s appropriate theme for the event.

The designer behind Fresh and Fly Customz showed some of his cultural heritage with the Ikat Adidas Sambas. The Ikat Sambas celebrate the designer’s roots in Uzbekistan via ikat patterns, which are woven panels and textiles similar to tie-dyed clothing. My favorite part of the Ikat Adidas Sambas is the reversible tongues on both shoes. While the default tongue is black with neon green lettering, the alternate side is the familiar purple and white ikat of the designer’s youth. These customs were made for a client who moved from Amsterdam to Miami recently and wanted to celebrate these two cities. The right shoe celebrates the warm weather, unique foliage and stunning skyline of Miami. The exterior side captures a line of palm trees along with the afternoon sun peaking through the leaves. Sole Brother portrayed the metro skyline of Miami from the Atlantic Ocean on the right interior side.

The left shoe shows what Sole Brother’s client was leaving behind in Amsterdam. Sole Brother used the exterior side to create a row of houses that could be taken from any street in the city. The interior side represents the windmills spread throughout the Netherlands.

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Adidas Superstar II are covered in inside jokes and personal references that are delightful to view. The left heel features “Alpha Kappa Alpha” in black cursive lettering and the sorority’s founding date (1908) set against a pink backdrop. The interior side of the left heel has the year 2001 printed in pink to represent the wearer’s first year of membership. Adidas has just made a perfect tie-up with XLarge, a clothing store based in LA, California in coming up with a new colorway of the Original Superstar. The shoe features purple and green snakeskin leather side panel and cream toe box and mid-sole. The suede stripes, tongue and back panel are in black color. And to finally make the Superstar a more interesting one, shoe laces have “XLarge Getting No Respect Since ‘91” printed on them. Expect for these to drop toward fall / winter of this year.

Adidas is coming up with its Tournament Edition Collection, featuring four classic shoes namely Stan
Smith Vintage, Grand Slam Vintage, Nastase Super, and Lendl Comp Vintage. This tennis inspired premium vintage sneaker collection is expected to return this upcoming Fall. All four comes in white colorway premium leathers with minimal accents.
The good people at Schuh-You in Dusseldorf, Germany sent us photos of the Adidas Superstar Vulc Ben Jones LE last week. These limited-edition Adidas Superstars were designed by Ben Jones, an artist who has presented his work at New York’s Deitch Gallery. The Adidas Superstar Vulc Ben Jones LE is part of the shoe company’s Star Kingz Artist Series as evidenced by the Star Kingz label on the tri-stripe. Here is another shoe from the 3rd party of the Adidas 3Way Project. The Samba. It was transformed to a Soccer or Tennis shoe but is actually dedicated to Badminton. The shoe brings translucent parts of the front and sole, the classic Adidas stripes are in 3 different colors – lime green, yellow and purple. Some part of it are teal suede and the label “ Shuttlecock Samba “ on the tongue. Amazing color combination, perfect for all ages!
The Forum Mid initially came out on the basketball courts in 1984. And now that it’s celebrating its 25th anniversary, the shoe is still as popular as it was when it first dropped. Adidas is releasing its Synthetic Pack that consists of four ZX series in different interesting colorways. The ZX9000 has the eye-catching colorway, combination of aqua and purple plus orange stripes with purple lining and white midsole. The ZX700 is made up of 3 different shades of grey with orange accent on the stripes and heel. Then, we also have the ZX500 composed of grey and silver upper with turquoise stripes, heel and frontal midsole plus minimal orange accent. After nearly 2 months, the official images of the third party 3Way Project signed Consortium are finally available. First of is my favorite the Nizza. The concept of the shoe is vintage to extremity.
